President Ram Nath Kovind visits Sikkim, to address SU convocation today

GANGTOK:
President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday arrived at Gangtok for a two-day visit of Sikkim. He is accompanied by First Lady Savita Kovind. The President landed at Army Helipad, Libing here and was received by Governor Ganga Prasad and Chief Minister P.S. Golay. Also on the reception team were Speaker L.B. Das, ministers and various dignitaries. The President received the guard of honour from the 17th Battalion of the Rajput Regiment under 17 Mountain Division of the Army and proceeded to Raj Bhawan. In the afternoon, the President visited Lingdum monastery, Ranka. He was accompanied by the Governor. The President was received and welcomed at the monastery by the Garwang Rinpoche, the Chief Minister, ministers and senior government officials. Kovind was given a traditional welcome by monks of the monastery through the display of singhi dance and mask dance. He offered his prayers at the monastery and also interacted with the monks, informs an IPR release.
The President is attending the 5th convocation of Sikkim University tomorrow and then leave for Shillong.
