SILIGURI,: A Sikkim registered taxi vehicle was vandalised by miscreants here on Sunday afternoon when its driver denied paying the alleged demanded donation for Kali Puja.
According to eyewitness, some people near Siliguri Circuit house had gathered to collect Kali Puja Chanda. They stopped the Sikkim vehicle which was heading towards Gangtok with passengers. The group asked for Rs.500 as donation but the driver agreed to pay Rs. 100 only after which the miscreants started abusing the driver.
The driver then started the engine and was trying to escape when the miscreants started pelting stones. The stone hit the driver injuring his head and some passengers also sustained minor injuries by the pieces of broken glasses.
Locals informed the Pradhan Nagar police who rushed to the spot and rescued the driver and the passengers. Pankaj Thapa, IC Pradhan Nagar police station said the police is yet to receive a written complaint.
