Muay Thai preparation camp concludes

GANGTOK (IPR): The 10-day long preparation camp for national Muay Thai championship concluded today at Jorethang, South Sikkim.
IPR minister-cum-area MLA Arjun Kumar Ghatani attended the valedictory function of the practice camp as the chief guest.
Muaythai Association of Sikkim (MAS) technical director R.B. Rai informed that a total of 24 participants along with the officials from Sikkim will represent the State in United Amateur National Muay Thai Championship scheduled to be held at Pune, Maharashtra from November 14 to 18.
Ghatani extended his best wishes to the participating players and encouraged them to live with the strong spirit and patience of winning gold medal for the State of Sikkim.
He advised participants to be dedicated and determined to continue for the promotion of Muay Thai in Sikkim.  He applauded the initiatives of the Association for involving youths in energetic sports activities like Muay Thai and urged them to help spread the message of staying away from drugs and getting help for mental health problems like depression. Besides, professionalism and self defence mechanism can be developed through sports events, he said. He also drew lights on challenges and constraints in journey of life and advised participants to accept impediments to reach their ultimate destination ahead.
He also informed that the State government has initiated certain grant for sports players and job reservation exclusively for sports persons under visionary leadership of Chief Minister Pawan Chamling.
Technical Director R.B. Rai proposed vote of thanks and recalled contributions of the area MLA in the number of events organised in the past and also applauded support extended by the Animal Husbandry department.
The minister was also accompanied by Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Department, Dr. Phurba Lepcha, general secretary MAS Kamal Rai and other associated members.
