Governor visits Lachung, Lachen

MANGAN (IPR): Governor Ganga Prasad today visited Lachung and Lachen Dzumsas in North Sikkim. The two Dzumsas warmly welcomed the Governor who held a public interaction meeting in the two Dzumsas.
At Lachung, the meeting was held in the Dzumsa hall which was attended by the Pipons, public and students of Lachung secondary school. The public requested for better road connectivity from Border Roads Organization as tourism is their major source of income. The public also requested the Governor to ensure compensation of the lands occupied by the Army.
The yak herders of Lachung stated that due to the occupation of grazing lands by the armed forces, the herders are finding it difficult to the maintain their livestock. The population of yaks have dwindled over the years and requested the Governor to look into providing adequate grazing fields for the yaks. They stated that the dwindling population of the yaks affects not only their income but it is very significant for balancing the fragile ecosystem of the high altitude.
At Lachen, the Pipons, public and school students had an interactive session with the Governor in the Dzumsa hall. The Pipons of Lachen requested the Governor to allow the entry of foreign tourists in Gurudongmar. They also requested for improvement in the road connectivity to Gurudongmar. The Pipons also put forth their demand of ensuring early compensation of their land occupied by the Army.  A cultural programme depicting their rich culture was also performed for the Governor.
The Governor addressing the public of the two Dzumsas stated that he was on a tour of the district to meet and interact with the people of Sikkim. He stated that Sikkim was a beautiful State with god gifted natural environment making tourism the most potential industry. He stated that requests placed by the people would be looked into and dealt appropriately.  
The Governor also urged the people to work steadfastly for the development of the State and the country. He urged the students to study well and also dealt on importance of role of parents and teachers in shaping the future generations.
During the tour, the Governor also visited the ITBP staging camp at Lachung and Chaten and distributed Diwali sweets to the soldiers guarding the frontiers. He also planted a sapling at ITBP staging camp in Lachung.
The Governor also presented Diwali sweets to the school students of Lachen and Lachung schools. The Governor visited the Angorra Rabit Farm and Trout Farm at Rabom en route to Lachen where he inspected the farms and met the staff.
