GANGTOK: The Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP), floated earlier this year in May, has been registered by the Election Commission of India (ECI) as a political party with effect from November 15.
A letter from ECI to this effect was received by the HSP who held a small celebratory programme at the HSP head-office here in Deorali on Tuesday.
“It is a historic day for HSP to be recognised and registered by the ECI. We have applied for the party symbol and will soon receive it,” said HSP vice president Ran Bahadur Subba.
Senior HSP executives including vice president Bhaichung Bhutia were present on the occasion.
The HSP was formed on May 31 at Daramdin in West Sikkim.
To a question, Subba said the party has not appointed any party president so far. “The party president will be announced much before the coming elections. We have seven vice presidents who coordinate and run the party,” he said.
