Two Sikkim lads in India u-16 exposure tour

GANGTOK: Two Sikkim footballers have been included in the India under-16 team’s exposure tour to the UAE. As part of the tour, the team is playing matches against the UAE and Saudi Arabia for the tri-nation football tournament.
Evan Thapa and Kushang Subba had undergone under-15 camp in Odisha and played 2018 SAFF Cup in Nepal before being included in the under-16 squad.
Evan has already featured in the tri-national opener against UAE on January 8 and Kushang is expected to be on field sooner than later.
Both Evan and Kushang hails from Arithang, Gangtok and are products of Boys Club Gangtok.
Boys Club coach Sanjay Singh expressed his happiness over the selection of the duo and their performance so far.  "Both of them are equally talented and disciplined players. They have made us all proud and we wish them huge success in the future,” said Singh.
Likewise former Boys Club coach Shisil Karthak recalled coaching them both in their initial stage. They were dedicated and hard-working players, and they both have great potential, he said.
Evan, a central defender and midfielder, has played four seasons of Sikkim Premier Division League. He has also represented State in Manchester United Cup 2013, Northeast tournament 2017, CAPF U19 Oorja football talent hunt 2017 and Dr T. Ao tournament 2018, besides playing under-18 I-League for Mohun Bagan Sail Academy and under-15 I-League for Gangtok Himalayan SC. In 2019, he represented India in U-15 SAFF Cup in Nepal.
Kushang, who plays as a right winger and right full back, also started his career with Boys Club Gangtok before being selected for SAIL Football Academy of Bokaro. In 2018, he was selected for Indian national team and went to China for an exposure tour. He also featured in the 2019 U-15 SAFF Cup in Nepal.
