Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leader Anit Thapa today maintained that there should be a Gorkha MP candidate for the hills.
"The MP candidate for the elections should be a Gorkha. He should be an able candidate however,” said Thapa addressing a public meeting at Kurseong motor stand. He added that it did not matter which 'colour' he was from hinting that it did not matter from which party the candidate belongs to. The meeting was held to thank the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for speaking on the identity issue of the Gorkhas.
Later on the sidelines of the meeting, Thapa told reporters that a Gorkha candidate was his personal opinion. “The MP candidate being a Gorkha candidate is my personal opinion and has to be discussed by our party. Discussion regarding the general elections like candidate is yet to be done by our party,” he said reiterating that they would however not support the BJP and they were with the Third Front.
“Our anti BJP campaign started after the agitation last year as they did nothing for us,” said Thapa.
