DARJEELING:
The Binay Tamang faction of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha today alleged that its rival Bimal Gurung faction had offered to hold talks with Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee for its own preservation and not to address the issues concerning the people.
Nari Morcha president Tshering Dahal said the other reason could be the realization that the BJP has betrayed the Gorkhas. "The BJP had given assurances on issues like Gorkhaland, granting of tribal status to 11 different communities and setting up of central university, but has done nothing about them till now. Bimal Gurung perhaps is now getting to know the real intentions of the BJP," she said.
Bimal faction leader Roshan Giri had welcomed Banerjee’s statement expressing her desire to address the issues of Gorkha identity and political problem of Darjeeling and said his faction was willing to hold talks with her in this regard.
Dahal further said the chief minister’s statement was a result of the efforts put in by Binay Tamang and Anit Thapa. "If they (Bimal faction) are wanting to hold talks with the State government now, they should clarify why Anit and Binay were branded as betrayers for holding talks with the State," she said.
