Rookie powerlifter Anjali Sharma says a podium finish in Eastern India Powerlifting Championship has bolstered her confidence.
Anjali won the lone medal (bronze) for Sikkim team in the recently-concluded championship in Silchar, Assam.
"The medal win has boosted me and I will perform even better in future tournaments,” said Anjali.
After debuting in national arena, Anjali shared, she felt that State athletes lack in many aspects in the sport and need to work on them.
Anjali was also awestruck by the participation of married women in the championship and feels that should be encouraged in the State too.
Anjali was felicitated for her achievement by Sikkim Powerlifting Association today.
SPA president Sushma Gurung congratulated Anjali and all the participants from the State. "SPA is just two months old and our aim is to promote this sport, encourage women empowerment, engage youth in sports and help them walk on the right track,” she said.
