Former Mr Sikkim Arun Gurung today completed 100 laps at Paljor Stadium here. Gurung was accompanied by ultra-marathoner Amar Subba and others in the run aimed at generating awareness against substance abuse and suicide and an encouraging people towards healthy lifestyle.
“Through this run I wanted to deliver a positive message regarding healthy living and motivate the patients suffering from substance abuse and depression. I am thankful to the supporters who came forward for this noble cause,” Arun said after completing 100 laps.
Subba, who accompanied Gurung for the whole 100 laps, said: “No age is a limit to start living a healthy life. You just need to be determined and disciplined. If the youths today want to have an addiction, they should addicted to their goals and passion, not negative elements in life,” said Subba.
The event was organised in association with Freedom Facility rehabilitation centre. Freedom Facility founder K.C. Nima thanked Gurung, Subba and everyone for making the event a success.
“We need more such individuals in our society to motivate the substance abusers towards positive and healthy life. The government and the people should encourage such events in future. Let us all work towards finding a solution to it rather than questioning its existence,” he said.
On the side-lines of the run, yoga and zumba sessions, and musical performance was also organised.
