Four regional parties form ‘Sikkim Progressive Alliance’, to contest elections jointly

Four regional parties of Sikkim – Sikkim Sangram Parishad (SSP), Sikkim National People’s Party, Sikkim Rajya Manch Party and Sikkim United Front - have decided to jointly contest the upcoming Assembly elections. This was decided during a meeting of the representatives of these four parties on Wednesday in Gangtok, informs a press release.
The meeting was chaired by SSP president Dil Kumari Bhandari and deliberated on the upcoming elections.  After the deliberations, the four parties decided to jointly contest the upcoming elections, the release mentions.
Sikkim Progressive Alliance is the name given to the electoral tie-up of these four parties.
Rup Narayan Chamling, the president of Sikkim Rajya Manch Party and incumbent MLA of Rangang-Yangang constituency, is the convener of the alliance. Sikkim Sangram Parishad president Dil Kumari Bhandari is the chief advisor.
Similarly, Sikkim National People’s Party president Delay Namgyal Barfungpa and Sikkim United Front president Narendra Adhikari have been appointed as the advisors of the alliance.
Sangram general secretary D.B. Basnett has been appointed as the spokesperson for the alliance.
A Parliamentary Committee would be selecting the candidates of the alliance. The alliance is expected to announce the candidates shortly, a press release informs.
