Sikkim team successfully completed their week-long residential training for the final round of Santosh trophy at Mangan today.
Speaking to SIKKIM EXPRESS, captain Mayal Dok Lepcha explained the reasons behind holding a residential camp at Mangan, away from the usual Paljor Stadium in Gangtok.
“If we are in the same place under one roof then it strengthens the bond and understanding amongst the team mates. In Gangtok, we used to get few hours to bond ourselves and after that everyone used to head back to their respective lives but here the scenario is different. We chose Mangan as it is aloof and less crowded compared to the capital plus we wanted to promote football here and encourage our budding talents,” Mayal Dok said.
Lepcha said qualifying for the final round of Santosh trophy is both a victory and a challenge for them. “We felt a regular practice session isn’t enough. Therefore, to bring in more variety in our training sessions, to stay fit and increase our stamina, we practiced at artificial turf and public ground at Mangan and on the banks of Mantam lake at Dzongu,” added Mayal Dok.
“Training at Dzongu was a complete new experience for us. Sandy field amidst the mountains and lake was a mixture of beach vibes and warm environment,” he said.
“The boys are good in terms of physical strength and fitness. We have worked both in techniques and tactics. We are confident for the final round and we will definitely give our best performance,” Mayal Dok added.
