SKM president P.S. Golay on Monday evening addressed the business community of East Sikkim at a hotel here where he committed to remove the alleged discrimination faced by the business community under the SDF government for 25 years.
“The discrimination and mistreatment faced by the business community under SDF government will be removed by the SKM government. We will integrate the business community into the mainstream Sikkimese society and give them their due rights,” said the SKM president.
Golay reiterated that the SKM party will work for income tax exemption for the old settlers at par with the Sikkim Subject Certificate holders. Benefits and schemes from the government would be given to the business community as given to the Sikkimese, he said. He also promised reinstating the previous reservation in education sector given to the business community that existed during the Sikkim Sangram Parishad government.
Free medical treatment in government hospitals and even referral facility would be extended to the business community members, said the SKM president. We will make trade license renewal period to 5 years and trade license will be facilitated without any hassles as we plan to simplify the licensing system in the State, he said.
Golay said the Residential Certificate (RC) from the SDF government was just a vote garnering plan from the ruling front. We will issue RC which will be as per law and vetting in the Assembly, he said.
The SKM president also committed more infrastructural boost for Gangtok including libraries and parks, and decongesting the Gangtok traffic.
Golay claimed that the SDF government took harsh steps against the business community after the 2014 election. It is the SDF government who is responsible for non-inclusion of the old settlers in the income tax exemption, he said. He promised that the SKM government will ensure full security to the business community and create a fertile business environment in the State.
Golay expressed his confidence that the SKM party will be given the mandate by the people of Sikkim this time.
