Sikkim Himalayan SC, despite not losing a single match, could not progress into the next round of Hero India Junior League for u-15 players due to goal difference.
Sikkim Himalayan SC today afternoon defeated AU Rajasthan FC 4-1 in their third and final group match at Kolkata to collect seven points from three matches. Purbanas Thatal and Anil Limboo scored two goals each for the Sikkim side.
However, it was Aizwal FC who topped the group with seven points but with a superior goal difference.
The Aizwal FC colts had won its final group match today morning with a whopping 13-0 score line against AU Rajasthan FC. The huge score line boosted the goal difference of Aizwal FC beyond Sikkim Himalayan SC.
Sikkim Himalayan SC coach Pranay Subba expressed his disappointment on not qualifying for the next round though his players gave their best.
“We played well in the group and collected two wins and one draw. It is disappointing not qualify for the next round but the club is happy that its junior players gave a good display. They also got a good exposure and experience of playing with other clubs outside Sikkim. This will help them in the long run as it is important for u-15 players to play competitive matches regularly,” said Subba.
The Sikkim team is returning home from Kolkata in a night train today.
