Kitam-Manpur GPU in south district achieved 100 per cent literacy rate on Saturday with 30 adults successfully clearing basic literacy test. The GPU gave away grade sheets to the adult learners who had appeared in the Assessment of Basic Literacy Programme under State Total Literacy Mission.
Thirty adult learners, including 29 females, had appeared for the assessment and all of them cleared the assessment with Grade A and B, informs a press release.
Panchayat president Savitri Chettri accompanied by vice president Shyam Subba, member Ved Prakash Bhujel and mission teacher coordinator Suresh Kumar Subba handed away the certificates to adult learners and applauded their encouraging participation in make the mission a success. Their participation also helped in achieving the 100 per cent literacy rate in the GPU, the release mentions.
The convocation also turned emotional when family members of two learners received the certificates on behalf of the deceased learners.
During the programme, five student volunteers Pranisha Sharma, Nikhil Regmi, Mahima Dhamala, Arjun Bhujel and Amisha Tamang were presented certificates of appreciation and mementos for volunteering to teach the adult learners. Of the 30 adult learners, 29 were female.
The teacher coordinator applauded the Gram Panchayat for their cooperation in making the mission successful and all the stakeholders for their support in making the GP a 100% literate GP.
The certificate of the assessment is issued by National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) under MHRD and State Literacy Mission Authority under Directorate of Literacy and Continuing Education, Government of Sikkim.
