Golay meets Union ministers with Sikkim issues

Chief Minister P.S. Golay, accompanied by RMD minister Sonam Lama, on Tuesday met three Union ministers at New Delhi with Sikkim-related issues and pending political demands.
As per the IPR releases, the Chief Minister met Union Defence minister Rajnath Singh and briefed him on various issues of the State. The matters placed were up-gradation of Pakyong airport to make it operational throughout the year, compensating for the Sikkim government duly against all the lands presently occupied by all the Defence organisations in different parts of the State, providing special quota to the Sikkimese youth in the Defence recruitment process and from defence point of view, strengthening the most peaceful State Sikkim that shares its maximum border with the neighbouring countries on its three sides.
After giving a patient hearing, Rajnath Singh assured to consider all the requests towards building Sikkim in the best possible way.
At the outset, Golay congratulated the Union minister for the successful completion and for his outstanding achievement during the last tenure. He also wished him for the new responsibility as the Defence minister of India.
The Chief Minister and RMD minister also met Minister of State for Home Affairs G. Kishan Reddy at New Delhi. They congratulated Reddy on assuming the charge of the ministry and for the massive victory of BJP in the recent Lok Sabha election.
The Chief Minister requested Reddy to facilitate the process towards according seat allocation in favour of Limboo and Tamang communities in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, and towards the consideration of Government of India for giving tribal status to all the eleven left-out ethnic communities of Sikkim as existed prior to the merger with India so that they could be given justice and provided with all possible opportunities in future at par with other tribal communities, the IPR release mentions.
Golay thanked Ministry of Home Affairs and Reddy for considering the visit of His Holiness, the 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje to visit Sikkim.
Reddy heard the demands patiently and assured to consider them and provide all possible cooperation to address them, the release mentions.
The Chief Minister also called on Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju at New Delhi and congratulated him upon assuming the charge of Sports Ministry.
While discussing various issues pertaining to Sikkim, the Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to Rijiju for his continuous support and help that was extended towards granting permission to His Holiness the 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje to visit Sikkim anytime.
The Chief Minister requested the Minister of State (IC) to help Sikkim in building up world-class sports infrastructure including up-gradation of Paljor Stadium, especially its turf improvement work.
Rijiju thanked the Chief Minister for the good wishes and assured to look into the issues discussed. He also urged the talented Sikkimese youth to avail the opportunities bestowed under ‘Khelo India Youth Games’ programme that is held annually and which offers a big platform for talent identification.
