Anit says budget disrespected hills

DARJEELING,: Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) leader and GTA BoA chairman Anit Thapa has criticised the BJP government at the Centre for not announcing anything for the Darjeeling hills in the Union Budget 2019-20 presented in the Lok Sabha on Friday.
Terming the budget as disrespect towards the mandate received from the hills, Thapa in a state today said Darjeeling was not part of the financial plans of the Centre government. “The vote given to the BJP MP Raju Bista from the hills seems to have been a waste and the hills again remained a vote bank for their party. A few days earlier only Raju Bista had spoken about a Central University for this area even as his party had promised different things in their manifesto along with development for the hills but nothing was mentioned in the budget,” said Thapa.
He further maintained that Darjeeling’s name was not there among the 17 tourism spots in the country being developed and converted into international tourism spots. “This is disrespectful towards the vote given to their candidate from the hills and the people here should also understand that if they cannot give even a single penny to the hills how will they give Gorkhaland,” he asked.
