Poet Rajendra Bhandari to be conferred Bhanu Bhakta Puraskar

DARJEELING,: Nepali poet and academic Rajendra Bhandari will be conferred the Bhanu Bhakta Puraskar this year, the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration announced today. Bhandari, a literary figure from Kalimpong, is an Indian-Nepali poet of repute.

DARJEELING,: Nepali poet and academic Rajendra Bhandari will be conferred the Bhanu Bhakta Puraskar this year, the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration announced today.
Bhandari, a literary figure from Kalimpong, is an Indian-Nepali poet of repute. Bhandari has published numerous collections of poetry and has won various awards over the years, including Diyalo Purashkar in Poetry (1981) and Dr Shova Kanti Thegim Memorial Award (1999).
Born in Darjeeling, Bhandari’s poetry has been deeply affected by his social milieu, and the poetry he values employs an uncluttered cadence, a colloquial diction and a lucid style.
Some of his popular poems are: “Hiundey Yee Chisa Raatka Pardeharuma” (In the Veils of Cold Wintry Nights), “Yee Shabdaharu: Yee Harafharu” (These Words: These Lines) and “Kshar/Akshar (Perishable/ Imperishable)
Apart from Bhandari, the GTA also announced the recipients of different awards to be given on the occasion of the 205th birth anniversary of Bhanu Bhakta, on July 13.
‘B.P. Pariyar Smriti Puraskar’ will be presented to Kiran Thakuri from Darjeeling for his contribution to the theatre and cinema, ‘Padri Ganga Prasad Pradhan Smriti Puraskar’ to Gideon Lepcha from Darjeeling for journalism, ‘G. Douglas Smriti Puraskar’ to Hemu Rai for his contribution to art and ‘Master Mitra Sen Thapa Puraskar’ to Kaji Singh from Kalimpong for his contribution in the field of music.
The GTA, on the occasion of Bhanu Jayanti, has been giving away different awards in a yearly basis and this time the GTA along with Nepali Sahitya Sammelan, Darjeeling is organising the programme at the Gorkha Dukha Niwarak Sammelan hall, informed GTA chairman Anit Thapa.
“Nepali Sahitya Sammelan president Sachin Rai Dumi said, “We have been holding a programme on Bhanu Jayanti in our own way. We have agreed to do this year’s programme with GTA and this is the start of our relationship with them.”
The programme will also include a traditional rally from the railway station to Chowrasta, homage to the poet’s statue and recitation of his poems among other.
The Bhanu Bhakta Puraskar in honour of the greatest Nepali poet Bhanubhakta Acharya was started by GTA in the year 2014 to honour the contributions made by people in the field of literature.
