GANGTOK,: Gangtok lad Raman Mohra has bagged Dr. Ambedkar National Merit Award for his meritorious performance in 2017 class XII ICSE examinations.
Raman had secured second position nationwide in the senior secondary school examinations conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations.
He had appeared for the examination as a student of St Joseph’s School, North Point, Darjeeling and is currently pursuing a History honours at St Stephen’s College, New Delhi. Raman is the son of Sunil Mohora and Neelam Rai, residents of Deorali, Gangtok.
The Dr. Ambedkar National Merit Awards is presented annually to meritorious SC/ST students by Dr. Ambedkar Foundation under Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.  The award carries a citation and a cash amount of Rs. 50,000.
Raman received the award on Tuesday from Darjeeling district magistrate Dr. Deepap Priya P. (IAS), in Darjeeling.  
“I am extremely honoured to be bestowed with this award. It came as a surprise for me. Dr. Ambedkar is ever so relevant as a proponent of equality, social justice and empowerment. The Constitution of India is a testimony to his resolve to end social discrimination, a resolve we all should be inspired to take up. I would like to dedicate this award to my alma mater, my teachers and my parents,” said Raman.
