GANGTOK,: The Football Players Association of Sikkim, which is hosting the upcoming FPAI Indian Football Awards 2019 in Gangtok, is in final preparations for the event. The awards ceremony along with an exhibition match between FPAI (Football Players Association of India) and FPAS teams is scheduled to take place at Paljor Stadium on July 21.
A pre-event planning (PREP) meeting was held at Paljor Stadium today. The meeting was attended by the members and advisors of the FPAS along with the stakeholders.
FPAS president Nirmal Chettri urged the gathering to get ready for the event with a positive mind-set and make the event a grand success.
FPAS advisor Jerry Basi, who was part of that famous Indian football team which won a bronze medal in the 1970 Asian Games in Bangkok, emphasized on putting a collective effort to make the event a success.
The meeting ended on a positive response from all the stakeholders and attendees.
Gangtok is the only second city in Northeast after Aizawl to host the prestigious Indian Football Awards. The award is handed out annually by FPAI, a FIFPro-affiliated premier association of Indian footballers.
The FPAI Indian Football Awards in Gangtok will see the presence of Indian football captain and 2018 FPAI Player of the Year Sunil Chhetri, India international defender Sandesh Jhingan, FPAI founding president Baichung Bhutia and current FPAI president Renedy Singh amongst numerous current and former Indian footballers.
Governor Ganga Prasad and Chief Minister P.S. Tamang (Golay) will be gracing the occasion as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
