DARJEELING,: Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leader Binay Tamang has alleged the BJP of not being sincere towards the demand of Gorkhaland and sought clarifications from Darjeeling MP Raju Bista and MLA Niraj Zimba on the party’s stand on separate Statehood demand.
Citing a recent comment by Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh stating that the BJP had not promised Gorkhaland, Tamang in press release said the BJP is not sincere towards the demand of Gorkhaland and are only using Gorkhas as vote banks which was again proven by the statement of Ghosh. Condemning the statement, Tamang expressed that the Gorkhas had reposed faith on the BJP for this issue for over a decade now and voted for the party this time in the Lok Sabha and Assembly by-election for the same issue.
“The BJP leader’s statement shows the attitude they have towards the Gorkhas. They will not be allowed to play with the emotion of the people. Zimba and Bista should give clarification on the anti-Gorkhland statement by the BJP leader as the MP had promised on bringing Gorkhaland. We want to question why Bista is quiet on the statement of the BJP leader,” said Tamang.
“Zimba has also not raised the issue of Gorkhaland in the State Legislative Assembly session and if he is sincere about the issue he should resign from the BJP and post of MLA. If he is however steadfast in the demand then he should clarify how his relationship with the BJP will be,” Tamang added.
Rubbishing the charge, Darjeeling BJP legislator Niraj Zimba said it is the political compulsion of Bengal BJP leaders along with Ghosh for making such statements but he is a State president and cannot make such decisions on a subject matter of Delhi. “However, a political solution as written in the BJP manifesto could mean Gorkhaland or Union Territory or any other options,” he maintained.  Zimba added that a meeting of the alliance partners and other stakeholders after July 26 would form a committee which will take up the issue with the Centre and discuss their commitment on the ‘long term political solutions for the hills.’
On the other hand, the Morcha (Binay camp) has decided to observe Saheed Diwas on July 27 at Gorkha Ranga Manch in which they will also be paying respect to the family of the martyrs of Gorkhaland since the mid-eighties. On the same day the Revival Sport Club (Rampuria Basti) paying homage to the Saheeds and in support of the Morcha will be organizing a half marathon from 6th Mile to Chowrasta.
