SE Report
The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) party has termed the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) party’s celebration of the second Jan Unmukti Diwas as a celebration of endorsement to corruption and a mockery of democracy. The party in a press release said the celebration was more of a Corruption Foundation Day as it marked a black day in Sikkim’s political history when a politician convicted in a corruption case was released after a year-long jail term.
The ruling SKM had on Saturday celebrated the Jan Unmukti Diwas to mark the first anniversary of release of its president and Chief Minister P.S. Golay from State Central Prison in 2018. The party dubbed the celebration as a day to mark the liberation from the SDF regime inviting criticism from the opposition front for celebrating corruption. It further mocked the SKM for comparing its leader with the likes of reformist, democratic, pro-poor and humanist leaders like Nelson Mandela, B.P. Koirala, Aung Sang Su Kyi saying it belittled their genuine contributions.
