SE Report
State BJP president D.B. Chauhan has stated that the dignity of Panchayati Raj system should be maintained in Sikkim.
Expression concern on the political intervention in the local governance system in the State, Chauhan said the practice has failed to maintain its dignity. “From time to time, political influence on this system, political pressure on independent and the panchayats from opposition parties, violations of their rights have hampered the development of rural areas. Likewise, the recent change of State government has also led to the separation of party-based interference on the rights and capabilities of the elected panchayats,” said Chauhan in a statement.
According to the BJP president, regardless of changes in the government, the constitutionally recognized Panchayati Raj system like the Parliament and the State Assembly should maintain its dignity. For this, Chauhan expressed that it is necessary for the State government and the Rural Development department to take into account the importance of the Panchayati Raj system, giving it the capacity and responsibility freely. Similarly, it has become imperative for the Panchayat members to carry out their responsibilities freely and impartially beyond party politics.
Chauhan also urged all the related institutions to play a responsible role in maintaining the constitutional system and its dignity of Panchayati Raj institutions. The influence of partisan politics should never affect its constitutional dignity and the BJP Sikkim unit feels the needs to protect the dignity of such a dignified Panchayati Raj system, he added.
