OMAS hands over funds raised to CM’s Relief Fund

The Organization of Musicians and Artistes of Sikkim (OMAS) today handed over a cheque of Rs. 1,01,580 toChief Minister’s Relief Fund to take up the relief works for the landslide affected families of Yuksam  villages.
The amount was collected from general public during a fundraiser organised by the OMAS at MG Marg here recently.
Minister Kunga Nima Lepcha, who received the cheque on behalf of the State, appreciated the efforts of OMAS and urged them to continue with their humanitarian work.
“The incident occurred on September 17, when a cloud-burst hit the village. Seventy-six houses have been affected by the calamity, including three houses that have been completely demolished. The village needs help and it is good to see so many people coming forward to help,” said Lepcha.
“OMAS has been proactive in such causes and if they need anything, they can come to the State government for help. The government will support OMAS in every way possible way,” the minister expressed.
On the occasion, OMAS president Sonam Gyaltsen Bhutia expressed that the artistes and musicians need a platform and their hard work should be appreciated. He also mentioned about the legislation the OMAS is proposing for a permanent solution to all stakeholders in creative fields across the spectrum. Sikkim urgently needs a law to empower, protect and hone our Sikkimese artistes engaged in creative field spanning different sectors, he said.
During the event, OMAS felicitated local artistes and organisations for supporting the cause. Gandhar Music Academy, Reeyaz Sangeetlaya, Remanti Sangeet Academy, Abhishek Rai, Sonam Leno, Dynamic Flickers Dance Academy, Little Pixies International School, Karismatic Academy, Dream Works Event Management, Ashmita Sharma, Xanku & Friends, Beyul Doegar Tshogpo, Ankit Rai & Nyizang Palmu Bhutia, Manoj Rai, Pravesh Hingmang and Miwang Lepcha, Roll Heads, Eagles Band (Sikkim Armed Police), Sofiyum and others joined had the OMAS at MG Marg to help the slide-hit families.
OMAS also felicitated Geeta Sharma from Singtam who got through at the blind audition of reality show ‘Voice of Nepal’.
OMAS has previously organised fundraisers for Uttarkhand flash floods, Kerala and Assam floods and Nepal earthquake among others.
