Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) on Friday sought explanation from the BJP leadership regarding a purported audio clip attributed to a senior State BJP functionary.
Addressing a press meet here, HSP spokesperson Biraj Adhikari played an audio clip wherein an alleged State BJP functionary has made controversial remarks regarding Article 371F.
“This audio clip is doing rounds in social media wherein such remarks have been made. We feel there is a hidden agenda of BJP for Sikkim and Article 371F. We have already seen what has happened to the special status of Jammu & Kashmir. People of Sikkim should remain on guard,” said Adhikari.
HSP working president Bhaichung Bhutia demanded the State BJP leadership to give an explanation regarding the audio clip. The State BJP must register a case if it is fake or they must explain to the people regarding the audio clip as we feel that is not a statement of a single individual but a line of thought of the party, he said.
Bhaichung said the BJP could have a long term plan to do away with Article 371F in an indirect manner. He pointed out to neighbouring Darjeeling hills where the BJP has won three consecutive Lok Sabha elections.
“The people of Darjeeling region had voted for the BJP based on the Gorkhaland demand for three Lok Sabha elections. BJP candidate Raju Bista won this time but he has not so far raised the demand of a separate State or a Union Territory for Darjeeling region. Bista and BJP are talking about a permanent solution. What is this permanent solution? Is it merger with Sikkim so they can dilute Article 371F?” questioned the HSP working president.
Bhaichung also countered the justification of development given for the SKM-BJP alliance.
“We have heard them saying that the alliance will bring development into Sikkim. We remind them that development can be done without an alliance. Each State is entitled to its share from the Central taxes and that fund is enough to bring development in Sikkim. They are merely asking for extra funds so they can indulge in corruption. We cannot accept that the alliance is for the development of Sikkim,” said Bhaichung.
The HSP executives maintained that the BJP is trying to form the government in Sikkim through a backdoor entry.
The HSP has fielded Bhaichung Bhutia as its candidate for the Gangtok bye-election and Nima Lepcha as its candidate for Martam-Rumtek bye-election.
