Darjeeling hotels to refuse OYO bookings

DARJEELING,: Hotels of Darjeeling operating as OYO partner hotels have decided to decline OYO bookings citing several reasons including the pending payments of over Rs. 50 lakh from the online hospitality major.
The Darjeeling Hotel Owners Association (DHOA) with over four hundred members in a meeting here Thursday decided that booking from OYO by the 40 to 50 partner hotels would be rejected.
DHOA president Sangey Tshering said, “We have been cheated by OYO and earlier also when we complained about the problems we were facing, they had given us assurances that our problems will be sorted out but they did nothing. We have decided to ban OYO from our
hotels and also appeal to other hotels here not to be associated with OYO. Hotels with them have about Rs. 4 to 8 lakh totalling to over Rs. 50 lakh in Darjeeling alone. We do not understand the accounts they show us and they neither explain.”
Asked about clients who have already booked their hotels from OYO, the DHOA president said the customers would be advised to cancel their OYO booking and directly check in at the hotel. “Their money will be refunded from OYO and we feel that it will also prove to be cheaper for them.”
Tshering also maintained that OYO officials were also approaching homestays and hotels at Lamahatta and Lepcha Jagat to join them with a new clause in their agreement that if they wanted to leave then they had to pay Rs. 4 lakh.
“Those who joined OYO before and wanted to leave it had to given a one month notice and they used to give an NOC after which the hotel could take online bookings from other such service providers but however they are not giving the NOC even after we approached them that we want to leave them,” said Tshering.
The DHOA will also meet the Darjeeling SP, DM and the GTA chairman asking them for their intervention in the matter.
