GANGTOK: Asymptomatic Covid-19 positive cases would be sent for home quarantine only if they have a separate room and bathroom and can stay isolated within the house, said Health director general-cum-secretary Dr. Pempa T. Bhutia on Tuesday.
The State task force meeting on Monday chaired by Chief Minister P.S. Golay had decided to send asymptomatic Covid-19 positive persons for home quarantine. Accordingly, the Health department was directed to prepare a SOP.
In his health bulletin, the Health director general-cum-secretary shared details of guidelines framed by the department regarding home quarantine of asymptomatic persons who have tested positive for coronavirus.
We will send the asymptomatic Covid-19 cases to home only if they have a separate room, separate bathroom and can stay isolated without mixing up with the family members, said Dr. Pempa. Our doctors will inspect the house and if found feasible, they will allow home quarantine, he said.
If such facilities are not available, the asymptomatic persons will not be allowed home quarantine.
Dr. Pempa added that the Covid-19 positive but asymptomatic persons would also not be sent for home quarantine if they have co-morbidities like hypertension, diabetes, cancer or other chronic illness. Such cases have to be admitted in the hospital, he said. He pointed out that the recent Covid-19 fatality from Rongli was a person who was already suffering from hypertension and diabetes.
