93 youths to represent Sikkim at National Youth Festival


GANGTOK: Ninety-three youths including NSS volunteers from Sikkim will represent State in the 23rd National Youth Festival at Lucknow.
The National Youth Festival is organized annually on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda aim is to connect the youth of the country with the mainstream of the nation. The festival not only provides a common platform to the youth, but also provides them an opportunity to showcase their cultural skills and courageous talent.
The 23rd edition is being organised jointly by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Uttar Pradesh Youth Welfare department, and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan and National Service Scheme of the Government of India.
The Sikkim contingent for the festival has 60 males and 33 females and out of them six are NSS volunteers. They will participate in different competitions including folk song, folk dance, one-act play, classical song (solo), classical instrument (solo) and elocution. Besides, Sikkim artists will present Lepcha, Bhutia and Tamang dances at the event.
Sports secretary Kuber Bhandari interacted with the artists and advised them to give their best and maintain the dignity of the State.
The Sikkim contingent is set of reach at Lucknow on Saturday.
