Army thanked for Nathu La rescue

GANGTOK,: East district administration today presented a letter of appreciation to the Indian Army for their extensive help in the rescue of civilians trapped at Nathu La due to poor weather conditions last month.  
Gangtok SDM Robin P. Sewa extended gratitude to 63 Mountain Brigade and the entire team that is looking after Nathu La sector for initiating rescue operation and saving more than 700 lives which included women and children on February 18 when 225 vehicles got stranded due to sudden deterioration of weather and heavy snowfall.
The SDM also thanked Col. S.S. Dhaliwal, the road sector commander of Nathu La who was led the rescue operation. Similarly, he thanked Lt. Col. Dilawar Singh Dhaka and Havildar Babu Lal of Headquarter 63 Mountain Brigade for their bravery and speedy decision making which ensured timely rescue of more than 400 civilians without any untoward incident.
An appreciation letter was also presented to 17 Mountain Division which was received by Lt Col. Dilawar Singh Dhaka.
