The Nepali department of Nar Bahadur Bhandari Degree College (NBBDC), Tadong here held Nepali Bhasha Manyata Diwas programme today to commemorate the Constitutional recognition of Nepali language.
The event organized as part of its annual feature was organized through online mode and joined by Sikkim Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba as the chief guest. Senior faculty member Bhakta Kunwar was the special guest on the occasion, a press release informs.
Addressing the virtual event, the chief guest remembered the role played by the language movement leaders in inclusion of Nepali language in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. He also shared his experience of being a Parliamentarian and having taken oath in Nepali language as a moment of pride.
The MP also stressed on the need to increase the teaching-learning and reading practices in Nepali language. He also shared that he would raise the demand for inclusion of Nepali language as a subject in State Level Eligibility Test (SLET), in the upcoming Parliament session.
Special guest Bhakta Kunwar delved on the history and events leading to recognition of Nepali language. He expressed that the onus now lies on the new generation to promote the use of Nepali language following its recognition, the release mentions.
