GEYZING,: A workshop on birding was organised at Yuksam, West Sikkim today by Birdwatchers Society, Kolkata and Bird Count India in association with Khangchendzonga Conservation Society.
Birdwatchers Society secretary Sujan Chatterjee said, “We have been organising such workshop in various States of India with an aim to promote birding activity without harming and disturbing the natural habitat for birds.
The workshop was largely participated by students and local tourism stakeholders. Birding guides of area were also present.
The workshop stressed on conservation of natural habitat for the birds. The participants were urged to share and upload the pictures of birds taken in their respective areas which will help the organisation to monitor and record the birds.
The workshop was interactive and a number of birding experts spoke about the state of birding and documentation.
The organisers also informed about eBird mobile application and its various web-based features.
D.S. Limboo, a local tourism entrepreneur, said, “Conservation of natural habitat for birds is important as birding is nowadays one of the popular tourism activities.”
