Chogyal Palden Thondup Namgyal Basketball Centennial Cup kicks off

GANGTOK,: Chogyal Palden Thondup Namgyal Basketball Centennial Cup 2022 held as a part of the centennial birthday celebration of the Chogyal started today at indoor basketball court, at Paljor Stadium complex here.
The three-day tournament organised by Basketball Association of Sikkim and Namgyal Institute of Tibetology has open men’s and women’s competitions and inter-school categories for boys and girls.  
The tournament was inaugurated by Sikkim Olympic Association president Kuber Bhandari.
Speaking to the media, Basketball Association of Sikkim general secretary Jigmela Wazalingpa informed that the men’s open has participation of top-eight teams from the on-going State basketball league, while the women’s open has top-four teams. For the inter-school competitions, we have encouraged government and private schools to participate, he added.
The opening match was played between the boys’ teams of Taktse International School and Holy Cross School, in which Taktse emerged winners with 35 points against Holy Cross’s 23. In the second match, TNA defeated Baha’i School 47-9.  
In the inter-school girls’ competition, Taktse defeated PNG ‘B’ 35-6, Holy Cross defeated Baha’i School 38-6 and PNG ‘A’ defeated TNA 20-13. PNG ‘A’ entered final with a 22-13 win over Holy Cross School in the first semi-final played later in the day.
In the men’s open, Vikings defeated Humans 89-32, Hoopsters defeated Pandas 69-30 and Raven’s defeated Yetis 68-57.
