SILIGURI,: Three close aides of Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) chief Bimal Gurung joined BJP during a public meeting at Siliguri today.
Former GJM spokesperson B.P. Bajgain, Terai central committee member Shankar Adhikari and Swaraj Thapa joined BJP camp by accepting the party flags from Darjeeling MP Raju Bista.
Bista, BJP national spokesperson for Bengal, said: "Thousands of others are waiting to join us and work with us in bringing about transformation in our region. Because they are aware that neither TMC nor CPM, Congress or any other party has the vision, mission and passion to develop North Bengal and to provide dignity, freedom, justice and respect to all the ethnic and cultural minorities from our region."
He said those who joined BJP today are the ones who have refused to sell their self-respect and conscience for the lure of power and money.
“They have chosen to fight for the rights of our people and work towards fulfilling their aspirations, instead of compromising with a corrupt regime for a position of power. They understand that TMC will never do justice to the Gorkhas, Adivasis, Rajbangshis, Koch, Meche, Rabha, Toto and other people from our region. They know that only BJP has the will and vision to fulfil the aspirations of our people from Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars.”
