CS briefs Governor on steps taken to ease public hardships during lockdown

GANGTOK: Chief secretary S.C. Gupta today called on Governor Ganga Prasad at Raj Bhawan here and briefed him about the measures and initiatives put in place by the Sikkim government in order to ease the hardships of common people following the countrywide lockdown due to the outbreak of global pandemic COVID-19.

A Raj Bhawan release informs that the chief secretary provided the updates on the preventive measures and preparedness of the State administration to tackle any eventuality and emergency related with the outbreak. He outlined the proactive approach taken by the State government since February 2020 to prevent its outbreak in the State.

The Governor referring to the suggestion and advices of the President and the Vice President of India during the video conference held March 27, asked Gupta to put in effective mechanism to facilitate the smooth movement of essential commodities and its equitable distribution to the needy and weaker section of society. He further urged him to ensure that the relief measures and special economic package announced by the Union government are utilised to its maximum advantage by the State reaching its intended beneficiaries.

The Governor stated that the State administration can make use of the voluntary services of all charitable NGOs including Red Cross Society following all safety precautions to provide essential services especially distribution of food and medicines at the far flung areas of the State wherever necessary.

Prasad, while enquiring about the status of quarantine facilities in the State, suggested that the infrastructures of universities and higher learning institutes can be kept on standby to accommodate maximum number of patients in case of its requirement. He further stressed on effective implementation of lockdown with all safety norms in order to achieve the intended objectives, the release mentions.
