GANGTOK: Chief Minister P.S. Golay has given strict instruction to chief secretary S.C. Gupta to investigate in depth the alleged illegal entry of five persons to South Sikkim through Mellicheckpost. Explanation is also to be sought from DGP A. Shankar Rao on the issue.
An official release informs that the Chief Minister today chaired a high level meeting to discuss on the contents and allegations made on social media regarding the alleged illegal entry of the group.
The meeting was attended by chief secretary S.C. Gupta, Chief Minister’s secretary S.D. Dhakal and others.
“The issue was discussed in detail and the Chief Minister gave strict instruction to the Chief Secretary to investigate the matter in depth and submit the report to the government for further action to those involved in illegal access of these persons including GauriShanker Gupta, resident of Jorethang, South Sikkim,” reads the release from the CMO.
The Chief Minister also directed the chief secretary to ask for an explanation from DGP A. Shankar Rao on the issue.
RinzingChewang Bhutia, secretary (coordination) for Covid-19 has been directed to visit Melli, Jorethang and Namchi for fact finding and submit the report to the government as soon as possible.
“Accordingly, on receipt of the said report, the government shall take appropriate action against those involved in giving illegal passage to GauriShanker Gupta of Jorethang and four others. The government has taken the issue very seriously,” said S.D. Dhakal, secretary to the Chief Minister.
