D Covid tally in Sikkim cross 2k mark

8th Covid death, 532 active cases

Sikkim recorded its 8th Covid death with the passing away of an 83-year-old resident of New Market area, Gangtok on Thursday. The person had diabetes and taken to STNM hospital here for treatment.
According to the health bulletin, the person had already expired by the time he was brought to the hospital at around 4 pm. Post-death test showed the deceased was Covid positive. His death has been recorded as Covid death, said Sonam G. Bhutia, State IEC officer, Health department.
Sonam informed that 20 new Covid positive cases were reported in the State based on the samples tested on Wednesday. The State’s active case tally is 532, he informed.
Most of the new Covid positive cases are from different localities of Gangtok, as per the health bulletin. Four cases are from Lingding area, one from Arithang, one from Lumsey, one from Panihouse and four from Tibet Road area.
A 10-day-old infant also came positive in the Truenat test at STNM hospital. The baby is admitted at paediatric intensive care unit in the hospital and is being well taken care of, said the Health IEC officer.
Two patients admitted in the STNM hospital have also tested Covid positive. A GMC worker staying in the GMC-designated quarantine centre also tested Covid positive.
The health bulletin informed that an ITBP person from the ITBP centre in Tadong area was also found infected with Covid.
Three persons were detected with coronavirus during rapid antigen testing at Singtam hospital. They are from Sang Khola, Majitar and Shantinagar.
So far, 1470 persons have been discharged from various Covid care centres after recovering from Covid-19 in the State. The total confirmed Covid cases, taking in account the active and discharged cases and the casualties, have now reached 2009 cases.
