GANGTOK
: The popular Dzongri-Goechela trek in West Sikkim is likely to reopen soon following a meeting between State Tourism Development Corporation (STDC) and Forest department today.
With the trek route falling within Khangchendzonga National Park, the STDC along with tourism organisations met the Forest secretary today to discuss reopening of tourist destinations and trekking routes falling under the Forest department.
The meetingdeliberated on de-notifying Forest department order issued in April for the closure of Dzongri-Goechela trekking trail inside the Khangchendzonga National Park due to the Covid pandemic.
Forest secretary Y.P. Gurung assured that the notification will be de-notified soon.
STDCchairman Lukendra Rasaily and team also discussed about the infrastructure in the biosphere region.
Rasaily also requested the Forest secretary to expedite the process of establishing a separate permit issuing office at Uttarey for convenience of local tour operators and ease of tourists.
Although Sikkim reopened tourism on October 10, tourism activities in the Khangchendzonga National Park could not take off.
The STDC chairman also met Ecotourism Cell director Udai Gurung. “We will be having further meeting on this subject followed by meeting with stakeholders of Sikkim,” informed Rasaily.
