Geyzing Police nab accused from Kolkata for duping local insurance policy holder

GANGTOK,: Geyzing Police has arrested a woman accused of impersonating as insurance agent and allegedly duping an individual from West Sikkim.
An investigation team of Geyzing Police Station nabbed the woman, one of the main accused persons, in Kolkata and brought her to Sikkim for investigation recently.
A case was filed at Geyzing police station on August 30 where a Reliance Life Insurance Policy holder from West Sikkim was duped into parting with his hard earned money amounting to Rs. 2,19,000 in different instalments by the swindlers operating out of Kolkata, informs an official release from senior superintendent of police (West).
In view of the gravity of the offence, a case was registered by Geyzing police and an investigation team led by SHO Silash Tamang proceeded to Kolkata for investigation and to nab the fraudsters.
The team was assisted by Anti-Terror Squad of Kolkata Police and the District Cyber Cell. “After a stay of 10 days involving painstaking investigation, the investigation team managed to nab one of the main accused persons,” the release states.
The woman is presently in the custody of Geyzing police.
It is suspected that the case may have wider ramification and information will be shared with other police units as the investigation proceeds.
“Members of the public are warned to be suspicious of unbelievable deals and bargains by seemingly big time corporate entities. The public should never share details of their bank accounts or deposit money without proper verification,” appealed the senior SP (west).
