Hill boards rally against CAA, NRC

DARJEELING,: Fourteen development boards of different hill communities today took out a rally in protest against the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the Citizenship Amendment Act (ACT) here. They were also extending their support to the stand taken by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee against NRC and CAA.

The rally was done under the banner of the All Board Coordination Committee from the railway station here to Chowrasta.

Mayel Lyang Lepcha Development Board chairman L.S. Tamsang said, “The 14 development boards took out a rally against the NRC and the CAA so that our message reaches the Centre. We also want to show our support to the Bengal Chief Minister’s stand on these two issues.”

“Why NRC should be implemented here when the hills are already peaceful? We want peace to remain here and do not want NRC,” he added.

Banners displayed in the rally today read ‘No NRC and CAB in Bengal’.
