DARJEELING,: The three-day Bengal Himalayan Carnival spread over Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Dooars was flagged-off on Friday at Chowrasta aiming to boost tourism in the region. It is organised by Himalayan and Tourism Development Network (HTDN) in association with Tourism department. The carnival started at Darjeeling to be followed by similar festivities at Kalimpong Delo ground with the last leg scheduled on February 7 at Bhorer Alo, Gajaldoba.
Through this programme, we want highlight these areas and also send the message that tourism has again started here after the Covid pandemic with tourists also coming here, said Raju Basu from HTDN.
Stalls were placed at Chowrasta along with those selling and exhibiting photos, local handicrafts and clothes. Heritage walks and interaction with rural tourism stakeholders are also part of the programme.
A bird marathon will also be held at Gajoldoba.
“We want to highlight the different tourism activities in the area like bird watching, adventure tourism and photography and introduce rural tourism through this programme all over the country," he said.
To promote these areas, guests from Buddhist Tour Operators from Bihar and Delhi Adventure Tour Operators have also been invited for the carnival.
