Martyr Suresh Chhetri remembered on Kargil Diwas

BAGDOGRA,: Sepoy Suresh Chhetri from Naxalbari, who was martyred in Kargil war of 1999, was remembered today on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas.
Twenty-six-year-old Suresh was martyred while fighting Pakistani soldiers at Mushkoh valley in Kargil sector of Kashmir on July 7, 1999.
A tribute was paid to the sepoy of 2nd Naga Regiment at his residence in Bagdogra by the family members and Siliguri's Unique Foundation team.
Deepti Paul, founder member of foundation, honoured Manju Chhetri, wife of Suresh, by offering a shawl.
Suresh's son Suman Suresh Kargil Chhetri who never saw his father called his mother and spoke to her from New Delhi. He said that he paid tribute and remembered his father on the occasion. He was in his mother's womb when his father was martyred during Operation Vijay.
Speaking to this correspondent over phone, he said, "I never saw my father but my family was thoughtful to give me two middle names ‘Suresh Kargil’. Wherever I go, people ask me why I have ‘Kargil’ in my name. It gives me a reason to talk about my father,” said Suman, who is aiming to become a doctor and serve people by wearing an Army uniform.
Manju Chhetri, wife of the martyred soldier, said family members decided to name him Suman Suresh Kargil Chhetri to remember his braveheart father.
Ram Chhetri, younger brother of Suresh, said: “It is a big loss for the family but at the same time we feel proud that he (Suresh) sacrificed his life while guarding the border.”
Assam Rifles soldier Sakti Paul, who is the founder of Unique Foundation, has been remembering the brave heroes who lost their lives for the nation since long. The foundation members always reach the houses of martyred to pay tribute on such occasions.
