:A large number of families quit SDF and joined ruling SKM party today in a meeting held at Gerethang under Yuksam-Tashiding constituency.
Among those who joined the ruling party were panchayats including panchayat presidents of six GPUs under Yuksam-Tashiding constituency. There are 10 GPUs in the constituency.
Mangal Limboo, the sitting panchayat president of Rimbi-Timbrong GPU, said they joined SKM because of its sincere and dedicated intentions to serve the people.
“We believe SKM is the best political party for Sikkim. As from today, we will abide by SKM philosophy,” he said.
They were welcomed into the SKM fold by area MLA and SLA deputy Speaker Sangay Lepcha.
Lepcha, in his address, called upon the people of the constituency to come together, regardless of their political affiliation, for the real development of the State. He said the SKM government has done a lot within the short span of time 14 months in comparison to the previous government.
Lepcha highlighted the pro-people initiatives of the State government including the recently launched youth-centric schemes of State government and welfare schemes for dairy farmers. He also informed about recent developments in health sector, viz. installation of dialysis unit in district hospitals and X-ray machines at primary health centres.
“We have found a true and able leader in P.S. Golay, let's not let this opportunity go from our hand,” Lepcha added.
SIDICO chairman Janak Gurung said the SKM's ultimate goal is to bring people of the State together for the greater development of the State. SKM is on a mission to redevelop State which was devastated by 25-year SDF government, he said.
SKMgeneral secretary (Organisation) Pavitra Manav said, “SKM is the only political party in Sikkim with true leadership and all should come under one leadership for real development of Sikkim. Sikkim Chief Minister and SKM president P.S. Golay is the only leader people should know and support.”
