The Bimal Gurung-led GJM faction on Wednesday attended the meeting at New Delhi hosted by the Union Home ministry on issues related with Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA).
The Morcha claimed that its delegation at the meeting submitted that they were attending to discuss the Statehood demand and not GTA.
GJM (Bimal Gurung camp) leader Lopsang Yolmo Lama, in a social media statement said: “The delegation raised the demands for the separate State of Gorkhaland and tribal status for the 11 Gorkha communities. When the issue of GTA was raised, the delegation submitted that they were at the meeting to discuss the Statehood and tribal status demand and not for GTA issues. They submitted that the MoA signed between the Centre, West Bengal government and GJM in 2011 has not been honoured by the State government.”
A detailed memorandum was submitted by the GJM delegation.
As per Lama, the memorandum highlighted irregularities, interferences and obstacles from the State government which have rendered GTA defunct. It was also added that the all the elected members of GTA had resigned collectively in 2017 rejecting the hill body.
A separate representation was also submitted at the meeting reiterating the Gorkhaland demand.
The MoS (Home), the Union Home secretary and senior officials attended the meeting while Lama led the seven-member delegation of the Morcha. It was claimed that no representative of West Bengal government attended the meeting.
“The minister after giving a patient audience assured the delegation that the government would consider all the materials presented before it and would announce the next meeting after speaking with the Union Home minister Amit Shah and would brief him about the contents of today's meeting,” said Lama.
