GANGTOK: LokSabha MP Indra Hang Subba on Wednesday released the ‘The Royal Gorkha Cook Book’ authored by seasoned chef Shamson Tamang who has worked in top hotels in his career.
Tamang, 39 years, hails from Peshok tea estate, Darjeeling and wrote the ‘The Royal Gorkha Cook Book’ with an aim to have Gorkha traditional food in elite restaurants and star-rated hotels.
“The motive in taking out this book is that our Gorkhacuisine should also get a place in elite hotels across the world. The book was also to get an endorsement for Gorkha food from the Parliament and I have handed away the book to the Sikkim LokSabha MP who has assured to take the matter in the Parliament. When we get Parliament endorsement, I am confident that our Gorkha food will get a place in star category hotels,” said Tamang.
Tamang mentioned that the traditional Gorkha food is vanishing in present times. We need to revive our traditional food and this book is my attempt to review our Gorkha food especially the fermented dishes, he said.
MP Indra Hang Subba congratulated Tamang for taking out the book on Gorkha food. This book is not only about food but also introduces our identity to the world, he said.
Subba assured to take up the matter regarding Gorkha food endorsement in the Parliament. Besides that, wherever I have to go to give a representation, I will go there and do all possible to introduce our food to the nation, he said.
On the occasion, Shamson Tamang was felicitated by Sikkim Tamang Youth Society.
The programme was attended by zillaupadhyaksha (west) Ashok Gurung, SHRA general secretary KaushalLamichaney and others.
