NCC Everest expedition training underway at Kamrang camp

NAMCHI: The training for West Bengal and Sikkim NCC Everest Expedition 2021 started recently at 04 Sikkim Battalion NCC camp at Kamrang, South Sikkim.
This is the first phase training of the cadets wherein they are being trained on various aspects of mountaineering along with motivational session.
This is the third expedition after the 2013 Everest expedition for boys and 2016 expedition for girls. The current expedition is for both boys and girls.
The first phase of the training and selection programme is being held in 17 State directorates all over India. 04 Sikkim NCC Battalion CECO Colonel Gaurav Karki is in-charge of selection for West Bengal and Sikkim battalion.
The final test of the candidates will be held on February 14 and following which the selected cadets to be stationed in Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) for second phase of the training.
From the HMI training, the shortlisted cadets will be selected for the post monsoon training which will be held in CHN Glaciers Training Academy. They will then proceed to Nepal on March 2021 for the Everest expedition.
The NCC Everest expedition has already held a record in Limca Book of World Records for having maximum number of women in the expedition team.
The training at Kamrang camp will conclude on February 15.
