Reopen Indo-Nepal border for trade: Panitanki traders


PANITANKI (Indo-Nepal Border),: The businessmen and traders at Panitanki today staged protest demanding immediate reopening of Indo-Nepal border so that they can earn some money during festive season.
Under the banner of Panitanki Babsyee Samity, they took out a rally from Panitanki market and assembled along the border demanding reopening of the border which is closed since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The porous border that connects two nations was closed on March 22 after coronavirus outbreak.
The members also submitted a memorandum to the assistant commandant of local SSB battalion for the reopening of the border.
Samity advisor Ram Kumar Chhetri said, “There are around 3,000 businessmen at Panitanki border who depend on customers from Nepal and after the closure of the border their income has totally stopped since last 18 months.”
Chhetri also demanded the State and the Central government to provide compensation to the shopkeepers who faced huge losses after the closure of the border.
SSB officials informed protesters that they will forward the memorandum to the concerned authorities.
