SDF, SKM blame each other for stone pelting on Chamling convoy

SE Report
Hours after a convoy of former Chief Minister and Sikkim Democratic Front president Pawan Chamling was attacked, the SDF blamed the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha for their "organised crime" in the State.
Three people were injured and five vehicles were vandalised in the stone pelting at Tarey Bhir, near Sadam today afternoon.
“Ever since SKM party came to power, violence, robbery and hooliganism have not only increased in the State but they are happening openly. Deadly attack on former Chief Minister, violent assault on opposition supporters on broad daylight and the MG Marg incident, where two youths were trampled to death, exposes the failure of SKM government,” SDF said in a press release.
Stating that the incident was “inhumane and antisocial”, the opposition has strongly condemned the attack.
The incident took place between 12:30 pm and 1 pm when Chamling was on his way to meet bereaved families at Sadam-Suntaley and Turuk, said SDF.
SDF leaders and working committee members, in a press conference at Ghurpisey here, claimed that police refused to register the FIR made by the victims, and served a 24-hour ultimatum to police to arrest culprits.
If no appropriate action is initiated, further steps will be initiated as per the constitution and law, they said.
They informed that four taxi vehicles and a private vehicle were vandalised, and one driver manhandled. The vehicles were part of the convoy.
Meanwhile, SKM party has accused the SDF party and Pawan Chamling of creating a pre-planned riot at Sadam.
“It is very unfortunate that the SDF president himself was present today to beat up the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha party workers and the general public,” said SKM, adding that Chamling had led 30-40 hired thugs to Melli to beat up SKM workers and the general public.
“We have learnt that Pawan Chamling went to Melli with weapons in his car. SKM party members were brutally beaten by Pawan Chamling and his cronies. Many private and tourist vehicles have been vandalized,” the SKM said.
SKM added that Chamling was there to bet up people and create riot under the pretext of going to meet the bereaved families.
