GANGTOK,: It is an unexpectedly positive situation for a young Sikkim side who have virtually booked their place in the knockout stage of Women’s Under-19 One Day Trophy with a 52-run win over Nagaland on Sunday that kept them at top of Plate Group with 16 points from four games.
The fourth win in as many matches has put the Sikkim women firmly in command with one game remaining and a four-point advantage over second-placed Jammu & Kashmir.
Should Sikkim earn a point from their final game against Arunachal Pradesh on Monday or J&K lose against Meghalaya, the Sikkim team will go through to the quarter-finals of the tournament.
Even if Sikkim lose and J&K win, the latter will have to win with a big margin to help their NRR to get better and come ahead of Sikkim.
After put onto to bat first at KIIT Cricket Stadium in Bhaubaneshwar on Sunday, Sikkim scored 143 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 50 overs. Pranita Chettri and Nandita Das were the top scorers with 32 and 33 runs respectively. The duo stitched a partnership of 70 runs for the second wicket.
In the second innings, Sikkim produced another solid bowling performance and bowled-out Nagaland for 91 runs in 38.3 overs. Dikcha Gurung took three wickets, and Nur Pandi and Leezamit picked two wickets each.
Sikkim will play their final game of the group stage against Arunachal Pradesh on Monday at Vikash Cricket Stadium in Bhubaneshwar. SICA chief Lobzang G. Tezning has insisted Sikkim should go for the kill and finish group stage with 100 % win record.
