GANGTOK,: Chief Minister P.S. Golay on Monday attended a video conference called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the distribution of vaccines for Covid-19. The video conference was attended by the Chief Ministers and representatives of all the States and UTs, a CMO release informs.
As per the release, the vaccination process will commence from January 16. In the first phase, almost 3 crore individuals throughout the country consisting of health workers and frontline-warriors have registered.
The individuals representing the scientific community of the country briefed everyone about the vaccines. They informed that the vaccines are completely safe for use and have been formulated by following proper global guidelines. They explained that the vaccines are immunogenic and two doses will be required, the CMO release mentions.
The Prime Minister stated this as the start of the largest vaccination drive in the world. He urged everyone to follow the SOPs and ensure that other health facilities and vaccinations will not be affected by the process. He emphasised on proper utilisation of the CoWIN app for registration and providing real-time updates.
The app will also serve as a reminder for individuals who have registered to be vaccinated.
He added that leaders, including himself, will be vaccinated in the second phase and asserted for the first phase to include only the health workers and frontline warriors.
Sikkim is fully prepared for administering the vaccine and has already finished dry runs throughout the State. The State has prepared proper logistics for transferring the vaccines and established more than 35 cold-chain points to store the vaccines under regulated temperature, the CMO release mentions.
On behalf of Sikkim, the Chief Minister thanked and also congratulated the scientific community for a commendable job. He also extended gratitude towards the Prime Minister for his exemplary suggestions during the pandemic, and believed that under his able leadership, India will reach new milestones in the years to follow.
