Sikkim lost an opportunity at Shillong: SDF

GANGTOK,: SDF spokesperson J.B. Darnal on Tuesday said Sikkim “lost an opportunity” with Chief Minister P.S. Golay not raising the pending political demands during the Northeastern Chief Ministers’ meeting at Shillong chaired by Union Home minister Amit Shah.
The Sikkim Chief Minister did not raise important demands like Limboo-Tamang Assembly seat reservation and tribal status for the left-out communities at the important meeting chaired by the Union Home minister at Shillong, said Darnal in a press statement.
“Instead of making these important demands, the Chief Minister spoke on the internet connectivity demand. Internet is the need of time but the Chief Minister should be aware that the pending demands of Sikkimese Janata are more important. A capable and honest leader should be using any opportunity in the interest of Sikkim and Sikkimese. We regret that Sikkim lost such an important opportunity,” said the SDF spokesperson.
“The Chief Minister also spoke about climate change during the meeting of the Northeastern Chief Ministers. For this, the SDF party is thankful. However, right before his eyes, countless trees have been chopped down, bulldozers are illegally run on rivers and streams and environment protection rules are openly flouted in the State. His speech on environment protection is phoney as there is a contrast between speech and action,” said the SDF spokesperson.
